Sporting 91 Green wins 2008 Cerritos Memorial Challenge Cup
The Sporting 91 Green team won the 2008 Cerritos Memorial Challenge
Cup held in the Long Beach area this past weekend. Our U16 age group
included teams from France, Arizona, Nevada, Cal-North, and Cal-South.
The boys went 6-0, including 4 shutouts and a thrilling
come-from-behind overtime win in the championship game versus Albion
SC (Cal-South State Cup quarterfinalist). We've been close before,
but this is the first Cal-South tournament that the boys have won! A
very nice crystal trophy will be delivered to the Club, along with our

Sporting U16 win State Cup for the Second year in a row
The Santa Clara Sporting U16 Green Team won the 2008 Cal-North State Cup Championship today by defeating Santa Rosa United Gold 1-0 in Morgan Hill. During the 7 games played in the State Cup Tournament, the team scored 28 goals for the team and only allowed 3 into their net. The team now looks forward to participating this June in the 2008 Far West Regional Championships in Hawaii. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and families! - - posted 5/4/08

Santa Clara Sporting ‘93s Invited to 2008 MUPC
The Santa Clara Sporting Club has been invited to provide a Boys under 14/15 (’93’s) team to participate in the U.S. Finals of the 2008 Manchester United Premier Cup (MUPC). MUPC is one of the largest and most competitive international youth soccer tournaments in the world. The US Finals will take place in late May hosted at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. Sporting coaches John Azevedo and Carlos Brasil will take a combination of players from the U14 & U15 Sporting Teams to the soccer tournament. The MUPC Cham5pions will qualify for the MUPC World Finals that will take place in mid July, 2008 in Manchester, England. And to top it all off, Nike will pay for the flights, accommodations, transportation and meals for the US boys winner at the World Finals! Good luck Sporting! - posted 4/30/08

SCSC U14 Boys Team Finish as Semi-Finalists at Dallas Cup
The Santa Clara Sporting U14 Boys Team returned as Semi-Finalists from the prestigous 2008 Dallas Cup Tournament held March 17th-21st. The Dallas Cup Tournament is one of the most prestigious youth soccer tournaments for boys in the US, and draws teams the top youth academy teams from Europe, Mexico and the US. Sporting won their first bracket play game 1-0 against the Universidad Nacional Pumas Team from Mexico, fought to a tie against the Tigres Houston Team 1-1, then soundly defeated the Magia Team 6-0. During their Quarter-Final match, Sporting won a tight game against the Central Jackson Soccer Team 2-1; the win earning them a berth into the Semi-Finals the Italia III Team, their rivals from Southern California. The match was well played, but Sporting fell short 1-2 to Italia. Congratulations to the team for finishing as Semi-Finalists.

Michael Lang Awarded SJ Mercury Player of the Year
Michael Lang from the Santa Clara Sporting '90 Team won the 2008 San Jose Mercury Player-of-the-Year award for his contribution to his Bellarmine Soccer Team. Lang helped his school win the 2008 CCS Championship title. Congratulations Michael! Read more - posted 4/30/08
Sporting '91 Green Boys Team Achieve High School Awards
Members of the Santa Clara Sporting '91 Green Team were recognized for their contribution during the high school soccer season last winter. Arnold Lopez won BVAL MH Second Team All-League, Jonathan Kupiec won the WCAL CIF/CCS Scholastic Achievement Award and his Bellarmine Team won the CCS-CIF Championship, Gio Luna was SCVAL EC League Champion and First Team All- League, David Cabiles was PAL Bay League Champion, Matt Taylor from Bellarmine was also CCS-CIF Champion and awarded SJ Mercury All-Mercury 2nd Team. Six Santa Clara Sporting Players Named to State ODP Team
Six Santa Clara Sporting athletes made the 2008 Cal-North State Olympic Development Program (ODP) Team after two intense weekends of tryouts held December 1st-2nd in Morgan Hill, and December 8th-9th in Ripon. Ryan Foo (Sporting 94), Bryce Clark & David Guillen (Sporting 95) all made the '95 Boys Cal-North State ODP Team, and Mariana Galvan, Ana Marija Sola, and Lindsay Mewes (Sporting 94) all made the '94 Girls Cal-North State ODP Team. - posted 1/23/08
Five Sporting Teams Crowned 2007 CYSA District 2 Champions
Congratulations to the following teams for winning the 2007 Abronzino Fall League (Class 1 soccer): Sporting '95Boys (U12), Sporting '93 Boys (U14), Sporting '91 Boys (U16), Sporting '97 Girls (U10), Sporting '93 Girls (U14).
